Managing devices and filters in BumpIt

Unlike physical printers and Impos' kitchen display, orders are NOT sent to individual bump screens. There is no concept of "backup" printing, or orders not being "delivered" to a particular device.

Instead, all orders arrive in BumpIt  and are placed in a "pool". Configuring a filter in BumpIt and assigning it to a device determines what each device can see within that pool of orders.

Each device is linked to a filter and will retain the current filter state at the point in time it was linked. It will not refresh the filter unless the app is restarted, or the filter is manually refreshed on the app.

Adding a device

Devices are added from the web "back office" application.

From the Sites page, click on the "Device" button for the corresponding site.

This allows you to add the CURRENT DEVICE as a screen to see dockets.

There are several settings available.

  1. Can Bump
    1. Allows this screen to bump products on orders. By default, bumping a product will bump it on all screens where it is visible according to the chosen filter.
  2. Can Hold
    1. Allows this screen to hold a docket. A held docket is not visible in the main orders page, instead they are found in the "Held" page.
  3. Can Combine
    1. Allows this screen to combine several dockets into one. This is achieve by long-pressing on a docket, and select others to combine.
  4. Can Batch
    1. Similar to combining, allows this screen to batch multiple dockets - but does not combine them into one.
  5. Can Undo
    1. Allows a bumped product or docket to be "undone", bringing it back into the order queue.
  6. Device Independent Bumping
    1. Counter-acts option 1, where Bumping a docket or products only affects the current device, and not all othersOnly used in certain scenarios.

Filters

A filter controls what can be seen when a device has it assigned.

Screen settings

Several options can be configured for a filter, and these control how dockets are displayed on a device using it. The filter can have some slightly different settings depending on whether it is being used on a Bump or Pass screen. Including

  • Number of dockets shown
  • The grouping (by category, by course or none)
  • Sounds
  • Font sizing

Products

Screen5.png

This is where we chose the products that will be shown in this filter. We can chose to enable individual products (similar to how we choose PrintQ1-20 on an item in Impos), or categories as a whole.

Ticking the Auto-add new products option ensures that when new products are uploaded within the category, they will be automatically enabled for this filter and shown on the screen.

Registers

We can also configure the Registers that orders will be shown for on this filter. Eg. we may want a screen to show all products, but only when ordered from POS1.

Example scenario

Consider your venue has two Bump Screens - Screen 1 (S1) and Screen 2 (S2).

Someone wants to order four things:

Pizza (A)

Pasta (B)

a Cocktail (C)

and water for the table (D)

S1 has a filter to only see product A and B.

S2 has a filter to only see product C.

In Impos, a user orders products A, B, C and D. Impos will push this order to BumpIt, and BumpIt now has a record of an order with product A, B, C and D.

S1 will only "see" the products A and B.

S2 will only "see" the product C.

D will be ignored.

However, if upon noticing this, we updated the filter on S2 to include "D", it would be immediately shown when refreshing the filter despite not being originally visible. This is because the order always exists in BumpIt even if the products are not visible on a specific device.

Multiple devices can have the same filter applied to be able to see the same products, or even different filters with product cross-over.
